The world premiere of the new 12-cylinder Ferrari 812 Superfast berlinetta will take place at the Geneva motor show in March.
This updated version of the F12berlinetta is the most powerful and fastest series production Ferrari in the marque’s history, we’re told, and not only introduces a plethora of innovative features but ‘is particularly significant as the V12 series marked the official start of the glorious Prancing Horse story in 1947, 70 years ago this year’.
The new model is powered by a 6.5-litre V12 engine that churns out an astonishing 800hp, and as such has created a new benchmark for front-engined sportscars. Maximum power arrives at a heady 8,500 rpm.
With torque of 718 Nm @ 7,000 rpm – and 80% of it delivered from 3,500 rpm – you’d expect performance to be startling. How does 0-62mph in 2.9 seconds sound for starters, followed by a maximum speed in excess of 210mph.
The 812 also comes with a range of technical improvements, including a 350 bar direct injection system, and even faster response times for the dual-clutch transmission.
It’s also the first Ferrari to feature electric power-assisted steering, as well as some pretty advance chassis dynamic tech, and as you can see from the pics there’s been quite a lot of development to the exterior styling too – reflecting the more extreme performance.
